As a result, many of these machines are better suited for small applications, such as removing paint from parts and pieces, rather than stripping an entire vehicle. These smaller machines also typically require less volume of air (liters per minute or cubic feet per minute) to operate. Generally speaking, small soda blasters with tank sizes under 40 kilo media capacity (90 pounds) have smaller delivery systems and use smaller nozzle sizes. In coming posts, I’ll discuss various soda blasting applications in detail, along with tips and ideas to help you with your cleaning project or business. Since most air compressors can easily provide that much pressure, you can begin to see why the cfm rating, or volume of air, is such an important factor in the soda blasting equation. For practical purposes, most soda blasting jobs require a final blasting pressure somewhere in the 25 to 100 psi range. Once that happens, your compressor will not be able to provide the necessary cfm, and you will experience a pressure drop, which may be too severe to allow you to do your job.įor example, if you are soda blasting paint off of a metal surface, and you set your blasting pressure at 90 psi, you may experience a pressure drop of 20 to 40 psi if your compressor’s cfm output can’t keep up with the cfm requirements of the nozzle size.Īll good soda blasters are equipped with an adjustable pressure regulator, which allows you to vary the final blasting pressure to suit the job you are doing. If your nozzle size is calling for more cfm than your compressor is capable of providing, you will drain your tank completely. What about tank size? A tank stores compressed air. You will not be able to use a large nozzle size if your compressor doesn’t put out the necessary cfm. Different soda blasters have different cfm requirements, depending on the size of the nozzle used. In general, the volume of air (cfm) will dictate the size of the nozzle you can use with your soda blaster. Pressure is expressed as psi (pounds per square inch) and volume is expressed as cfm (cubic feet per minute). Air compressors are rated by two factors: pressure and volume. Today, I want to discuss some of the basics about air compressors, and what you need to know to get the right setup for your soda blasting job or business.Īll soda blasters use an air compressor to provide compressed air to blast or shoot the soda blast media through the soda blaster. Once you understand how soda blasting works, it is much easier to appreciate why it is such an effective, and safe, cleaning method for many different types of jobs. In my first posting, I explained what soda blasting is, and what makes soda blasting such a unique cleaning process. Hi Everybody! This is my second blog posting about soda blasting, the environmentally friendly cleaning method that uses a form of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) in place of other non-environmentally friendly, and health hazardous blasting medias like sand.

The final parallel with Rocksteady’s superhero masterpiece is the combat. If you panic and run they’ll look for you, call their brutish buddies, maybe give voice to their fears if you’ve recently proven your lethality. The Uruks of Mordor respond like the Joker’s goons, becoming bolder the more you struggle, or turning tail when your assault proves unbreakable. While it’s true that Talion climbs solitary towers to fill in his map and can skulk around in bushes, his version of focused vision is closer to Batman’s Detective Mode than Eagle Vision, used to track quarry across the rugged terrain and find hidden collectibles.Įnemy interaction takes several leaves from Batman’s handbook, too, as you use fear and deception to destroy and disorient your foes. When you break it down into its component parts, Mordor is also Arkham Asylum in Middle-earth. Much noise has reverberated around the obvious Assassin’s Creed comparisons both pre and post-release, but the truth is that it’s a less blindingly obvious game that Mordor draws the most parallels with. As a result, it’s a darker Middle-earth than we’re used to seeing, and despite the familiar themes and visuals, it feels utterly original. Where Tolkien’s original tales championed the rejection of absolute power in favour of innate courage and sacrifice, Shadow of Mordor sees Talion welcoming the power of his ghostly symbiote, openly seeking the kind of bloody vengeance that Tolkien always avoided. Possessed by an Elfish Wraith, Talion has been brought back from the brink of death to destroy the Black Hand of Sauron, an evil tyrant determined to see the Dark Lord return. Set in the years between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, this original story takes place within Mordor itself, as resurrected Ranger Talion sets out to avenge the death of his wife and son, as well as his own. Because Shadow of Mordor, against almost all our expectations, is excellent. No one could blame us for feeling apprehensive.īut then I put the disc in the tray, booted up Shadow of Mordor, and experienced undeniable deja vu. Initial trailers and screens for Mordor were uninspiring, showing an Assassin’s Creed-like stealth-em-up with a Middle-earth sheen. Occasional gems have been found among the rough, but ultimately fans of the franchise have always been left wanting something more. Like Batman, Tolkien’s genre-defining fantasy opus is a license that has never really been used to its potential. The license had been abused so much, we just couldn’t trust anyone to do it justice, not even Warner Brothers.įive years later, and history has been repeating itself like a bad curry ever since Warner Brothers announced Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. It’s not that we didn’t know it was coming we’d seen trailers and hype and lofty promises, but none of us truly expected Arkham Asylum to be as good as it was. A few years ago a little studio named Rocksteady came careening out of left field to hit us with what turned out to be the greatest Batman game that ever was. For those reasons, as I detailed on AppStories, I believe that a board view is the kind of functionality that more task managers should implement in addition to standard list views.įortunately, GoodTask developer Hanbum Kim listened to my request (which was also followed by other helpful comments by AppStories listeners on Twitter) and brought board views to GoodTask 6.4, released today for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. I used Todoist for a couple months to keep track of tasks related to my iOS and iPadOS 14 review last year, and I found its board view a terrific way to visualize different groups of tasks within a project Trello is also one of the services we use to manage Club MacStories, so the Kanban methodology resonates with me and I like the idea of dragging and dropping tasks across columns. Introduced last year, board view lets you visualize tasks in a Todoist project with a Kanban board reminiscent of Trello, and it comes with support for sections and multiple sorting options. In that episode of AppStories, I mentioned how, in my experiments with other task managers, I came across a feature I would have liked to see in GoodTask: Todoist’s board view. Essentially, if you like the convenience and system integrations of Reminders but find yourself wanting more flexibility from Apple’s Reminders app, you need to give GoodTask a try. We’ve mentioned GoodTask several times on both MacStories and AppStories before for those not familiar with it, GoodTask uses Reminders as its “database” for tasks, but it enhances the experience with power-user features such as smart lists, customizable quick actions for task templates, and a variety of view options that can be personalized and applied on a per-list basis. In our Workflows Revisited: Task Management episode of AppStories from December, I explained my decision to keep using GoodTask – the powerful third-party Reminders client – as my primary task manager. That is to say: the line will be slanted up if you are sliding from a higher pitch and low if you are sliding from a lower pitch. In most cases, depending on your sliding pitch, the line will be slanted up or down. Sliding: remember a fret number we talked about earlier? The presentation of a fret number, a line, and another fret number will signify sliding. In the same context, a half bend will require you to bend up half a step. This brings us to our next tip, which is the bending tip: A full bend means bending up an entire step. It will also be essential to mention that the bend can be "full" or ". Next to the shaft, you should see an indicator showing the distance you are to bend the note. The upward-pointing arrow will be next to one or more numbers. This often occurs in strumming patterns or raked parts of lead lines.īending: Whenever you see an arrow pointing upwards, you will be expected to bend a note. In addition, you should play the note to completely mute the pitch. Every time you see a muted note, you are expected to soften the note using your right or left hand. Muted Notes: Also known as the dead notes, muted notes are symbolized by an "X" on a particular string. For the little dashes, those are the number of times you should continue palm muting the notes. Palm Muting: If you can see a P.M marker, that's the palm muting. Having understood the basics of a Tab layout, it is time to look into the common elements you are likely to see when trying to play your favorite song. They will signify a harmony of some kind. The chords are the stacked numbers on a piece of tablature. The notes are the single numbers from your right to left on a piece of Tab that will represent a melody line or perhaps a solo you might play. So what exactly are they, and do they do? I have mentioned notes and chords before. In case they are all stacked on top of the other, then that is the only time you can simultaneously play multiple notes. This brings us to our first Tab tip: Always read Tab from your left to your right. In other words, the uppermost line will be the thinnest, and the bottom-most will be the thickest. The topmost line is the high E guitar string, and the bottom line will be the low E string of the guitar. You are also likely to see six horizontal lines of the Tab that will represent the six guitar strings. In most cases, you will notice some standard notation on the top and bottom of the Tab. That is to say the thinnest will be the first and the thickest the sixth. The lines are arranged in numerical order from the thinnest to the thickest.
Joshua Vaughn recently reported in The Appeal that, of the 1,700 misdemeanor drug possession cases referred to Zappala’s office in 2017, he sought a criminal conviction in more than 90 percent of them. It is also a departure from her opponent, longtime incumbent Stephen Zappala. “Addiction is a medical issue, not a criminal issue.” She would still use the punitive threat of charges to compel treatment, and act differently if people have repeated arrests, so she qualified that her goal is “never going to happen.” Still, her stated aim is a departure from the traditional template of DA candidates who say they will drive up conviction rates regardless of who is being funneled into the criminal legal system, and for what reason. “The ultimate goal would be to have zero percent conviction rate,” she said about drug possession cases. Middleman told the Political Report that she also wants to set up new diversion options for drug offenses. Her unusually detailed online platform commits her to not seeking the death penalty, avoiding mandatory minimums, avoiding probation terms upon release from incarceration, not seeking cash bail, and declining to prosecute marijuana possession, among other policies. Middleman works as a public defender in Allegheny County, the state’s second-biggest jurisdiction (after Philadelphia) and home to Pittsburgh. “I would anticipate that given that our goals are very similar, our outlooks on the changes that are necessary to make this system actually work for all of the people are very similar, that we would be a strong force to reckon with,” she told The Appeal: Political Report this week in a Q&A. Lisa Middleman looks forward to “joining forces” with Philadelphia’s reform-minded district attorney Larry Krasner if she is elected DA of Allegheny County in November. DAs should be “reducing mass incarceration and creating equity,” she told the Political Report. Lisa Middleman is challenging Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala in November.
